Lubrizol has developed a new diesel fuel called PuriNox that can reduce soot emissions by
up to 55 percent and cut smog-forming oxides of nitrogen by as much as one-third. PuriNox
is a blend of conventional diesel fuel with an emulsifier and 10- to 20-percent purified
water. The new fuel is being tested in a fleet of buses in Ohio. PuriNox doesn’t cost more,
but reduces mileage about 10 percent. California may subsidize its use to help meet 2005
emission standards in the Golden State.
