Livin' Large

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

RV manufacturers are forever trying to re-create the residential experience of a stationary
home within the confines of a trailer. The Crown Marquis FRC37RLQS is King of the Road’s
(KOTR) latest offering that looks to achieve the residential goal. In addition to the
standard bells and whistles buyers expect in larger, well-made fifth-wheels, the KOTR has
added a fireplace, a washer/dryer combo, a king-size mattress and even a front porch. Once
on the road, the King of the Road’s MOR/ryde suspension and rubber pin box absorbed a good
portion of the jolting from the buckboard routes we traveled on. Overall, towing the
Marquis was hassle-free, considering its size. Inside, the test unit was dressed in an
inviting Yosemite color scheme, featuring earthy green and brown hues. Cabinets were of the
oak variety. The galley utilizes a streetside slide and U-shape counter area in a peninsula
configuration to open up the meal-prep area. When it comes time to entertain, a streetside
slide houses an entertainment center with a 27-inch LCD TV and a five-disc CD/DVD changer.
Below the TV is an optional electric fireplace, complete with flame-effect, that can either
be used as a heater or merely for mood lighting. The slideout master bedroom features a
king-size pillowtop mattress that is about as comfortable as any RV mattress we’ve come
across. The bath area, just aft of the master, features a Thetford Aqua-Magic toilet, an
under-mount sink with vanity and a tall shower. The real star here is located behind a
cabinet — a stackable Majestic washer/dryer combo. With the Crown Marquis, KOTR has aimed
to re-create the residential feel of a luxury home. And, like a luxury home, the Crown
Marquis isn’t cheap, but all the extra standard amenities may make the msrp easier to
handle. A variety of top-quality furnishings, high-grade construction and thoughtful
full-time conveniences all add up to a pleasant towing — and RVing — experience. Pick up
