Land Rover LR3 Is All New

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

Ford’s upscale Land Rover division is readying the replacement for its popular Discovery
SUV with an all-new model that will be named LR3 to denote its third-generation status.
It’s completely restyled similar to the Range Rover but has a rear hatch lid that’s split
asymmetrically and adaptive headlights that turn with the steering. An all-new 4.4-liter
V-8 rated at 300 hp will be coupled to a six-speed automatic transmission. A patented
Terrain Response system offers maximum traction with five settings for normal driving,
slippery conditions (grass/gravel/snow), and three off-road settings (mud/ruts, sand, rock
crawl). Terrain Response then directs electronic controls for ride height, engine response,
traction control, hill descent control and transmission shifting. Most versions will be
equipped with air suspension. The new LR3 seats five, with a third-row seat optional. Price
and tow rating (currently $34,995 base and 7,000 pounds max) have not been announced, but
should be slightly higher than the Discovery’s. The LR3 will be available later this year.
