A Texas state court judge has approved a $149 million settlement of 30 class-action
lawsuits filed against Bridgestone-Firestone Tire. This settlement could affect an
estimated 15 million drivers and involve about 60 million tires.
It requires Firestone to
continue to replace some $70 million worth of tires. As many as 30 percent of the owners
affected by the original recall haven’t come forward yet, and Firestone agreed to extend
the recall coverage indefinitely to handle future claims.
Those who are not named, but
owned one of 22 models of Bridgestone/Firestone tires between 1991 and 2001, qualify to
have their tires replaced.
