Jeep Debuts Model Updates at NY Show

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

Jeep is showing its new Wrangler Unlimited at the New York International Auto Show, April
9-18. It is a long-wheelbase version of the Wrangler with a base price of $24,995. The
Unlimited, which has similar dimensions to the discontinued Cherokee, will be in showrooms
in the next few weeks. Perhaps most significant is a new Grand Cherokee that is a few
inches wider and about five inches longer. The next Grand Cherokee will be available with
an optional Hemi V-8 engine. Jeep’s upcoming diesel-engined Liberty SUV will be powered by
a 2.8-liter common-rail diesel rated at about 160 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque. This should
be good for improved towing capability, Jeep says, plus better fuel economy. The diesel
engine will be available on both Sport and Limited models. For 2005, all Liberty SUVs
receive some restyling, including a new grille, fog lamps, and fender flares.
