International Trucks, a division of Navistar International, is developing what surely will
be the world’s largest production pickup truck. Named the International CXT, this
medium-duty truck with air brakes is built on the same chassis as a dump truck and is said
to have three times the payload of conventional pickups.
The CXT seats five in captain’s
chairs and offers a DVD entertainment system with a flat screen TV, an XM satellite radio
and custom paint. A 220-hp diesel with 540 lb-ft of torque drives an Allison automatic
transmission through all-wheel drive.
Approximately 50 units, at around $100,000, are
planned.
