Hydrogen: A Matter of Supply and Demand

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

Ford says its H2RV technology concept car could be built and sold now if there were only a
fueling infrastructure for hydrogen, and uniform laws and regulations that would allow its
use nationwide. The H2RV combines a supercharged internal combustion engine powered by
hydrogen, with a Modular Hybrid Transmission System (MHTS). The H2RV is considered a
transition strategy to stimulate the hydrogen fuel infrastructure, including onboard
hydrogen fuel storage, hydrogen fuel dispensing and hydrogen safety sensors. The H2RV has a
curb weight of 3,420 pounds and a range of approximately 125 miles on 6.2 pounds of
compressed hydrogen gas at 5,000 psi. Two H2RV vehicles are now being test-driven on the
road.
