For the 2006 model year, the Hummer H1 Alpha gets more performance from GM’s Duramax diesel
engine. The Alpha’s 6.6-liter turbodiesel is rated at 300 hp and 520 lb-ft of torque. Its
four-wheel-drive system works in conjunction with a five-speed Allison automatic
transmission.
All 2006 H1s will be Alpha models, according to Hummer. Performance is
claimed to be three seconds faster to 60 mph with the uprated engine. Currently, it takes
13.5 seconds to get to that speed. The Alpha will ride two inches higher than other H1s,
and will have an improved interior that bowed on the 2004 H1.
