General Motors President Troy Clarke has announced that the company will have half of its
U.S. fleet running on ethanol by 2012. Clarke said that GM will have 11 ethanol-capable
vehicles on the market in 2008, and 15 in 2009.
Clarke also explained that ethanol-plant
engineering firm ICM Inc. will build its first plant, which is expected to begin production
in late 2010.
It will be the first ethanol plant of its type utilizing proprietary
technology that will mass produce ethanol for less than $1 per gallon, using a special
process that converts feedstock, agricultural waste, biomass, and even municipal solid
waste to ethanol.
