Goodyear and Ameritire to Develop Urethane Tires

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company has signed an exclusive agreement with Ameritire
Corporation to jointly develop urethane tires with the goal of eventually replacing rubber
vehicle tires. Ameritire has developed what early tests show may be a viable compound for
production of urethane tires.

Tiremakers did extensive work on urethane car tires from the
1950s to the 1970s, and Goodyear made red-colored urethane tires. However, none compared
favorably to conventional rubber tires for wet or dry traction or for cut resistance.
