GMC Announces '09 Sierra Hybrid

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

Confounded by rising fuel prices? GMC has announced the coming 2009 Sierra Hybrid, a
powerful full-size pickup that is said to provide up to 40-percent higher city fuel economy
and a 25-percent improvement in overall fuel mileage, while still delivering the
performance expected of a full-size truck — including a 6,100-pound tow rating. Powered by
a two-mode hybrid system and a 6.0-liter gasoline V-8 engine, the Sierra Hybrid can operate
on all electric up to 30 mph. According to GMC, the truck will produce fuel savings even
when fully loaded or towing a trailer. The Sierra Hybrid will be offered in a Crew Cab body
style, with both 2WD and 4WD versions. Each is equipped with popular features, including
StabiliTrak electronic stability control system, a limited-slip differential and a towing
package. Sierra Hybrids also will have dual-stage frontal air bags and head curtain side
air bags. This pickup is the only full-size truck with five-star side-impact ratings in
federal crash tests. Sierra Hybrids are coming in early 2009; prices have not yet been
announced.
