GM Will Debut Six-Door SUV for 2002 Model Year

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

First, minivans went from three doors to four doors. After that, pickups added a third
door, then a fourth. Now General Motors is stretching its biggest sport-utility vehicle
(SUV) and is adding two more doors for a six-door model. Although the wheelbase will be
increased somewhat, the two extra doors will be small, similar in function and size to the
“suicide” forward-opening doors common on extended-cab pickups. The extra doors will be
between the second, or middle, door and the wheel well on each side and will open only if
the second door is opened. Sources say the SUV will debut for the 2002 model year and will
possibly be branded a Chevrolet Suburban, a GMC Yukon XL or both.
