General Motors divisions will introduce several new models of interest to trailerists. GMC
will offer the Envoy XUV, which will be a long wheelbase version of the Envoy sport-utility
vehicle that converts to an open truck bed in back.
Engine choices will be the 4.2-liter
in-line six rated at 275 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque, or the 5.3-liter V-8 rated at 285 hp
and 325 lb-ft of torque. Look for it in summer 2003 as a 2004 model. Chevrolet is adding a
Silverado SS pickup with an extended cab and shortbed, plus the hot 6.0-liter V-8 with a
four-speed automatic. It will be rated at 345 horses and 380 lb-ft of torque, and it should
be available early in 2003.
Buick will offer a replacement of sorts for the outgoing
Oldsmobile Bravada in the fall of 2003. Called the Rainier, it will be powered by the same
in-line six rated at 275 hp and 275 lb-ft of torque. The 5.3-liter V-8, rated at 285 hp and
325 lb-ft of torque, will be offered as an option at a later time.
