General Motors has announced that it will introduce a full-size pickup truck with a hybrid
drive system in 2004. The parallel hybrid drive combines 5.3-liter V-8 power for hauling,
towing and hill climbing with an auxiliary electric-drive motor.
According to GM, this
affords fuel economy gains of up to 12 percent. Additionally, the system will have a
42-volt battery and two 120-volt, 20-amp AC-power outlets to run power tools, camping gear
and other items.
