General Motors is recalling some 570,000 Chevrolet and GMC pickups, vans and SUVs because
of problems with the vehicles’ power mirrors.
The vehicles that are affected include the
1997-98 Chevrolet and GMC Suburbans, 1997 Chevrolet Blazer and GMC Jimmy midsize SUVs, 1998
Chevrolet C/K and GMC Sierra pickups, and 1998 Chevrolet Astro and GMC Safari vans.
Power
mirrors on the vehicles will require an electrical patch to circumvent a short circuit that
has caused 67 electrical fires in door and trim panels in the affected vehicles.
Three
injuries also have been reported. GM will fix the vehicles free of charge.
