General Motors is recalling about 10,000 model-year 2001 full-size pickup trucks and
sport-utility vehicles to replace defective seat belts. The recall covers certain 2001
Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size extended-cab pickups, plus Chevrolet Tahoe,
Suburban, GMC Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL, and Yukon XL Denali models. Some of the
recalled vehicles may have a faulty component in their second- and third-row safety-belt
assemblies that can fail. Dealers will inspect the vehicles’ safety-belt retractors to
determine if they have fractured or are at risk of breaking, and will replace them if
necessary for free. GM sent notification letters to owners of the affected vehicles.
