GM Light-Duty Pickups Get Diesel

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

General Motors plans to offer diesel engines in its light-duty pickups for the first time
in two decades.

A spokesman said GM plans to release details of its new diesel engine
within the next six months. Other plans include a two-mode hybrid system to appear on all
2008 full-size trucks and SUVs, along with E85 flex-fuel vehicles that run on 85 percent
ethanol and 15 percent gasoline.

Pickup truck sales have declined as gasoline prices remain
high. Overall pickup sales dropped 11 percent during the first half of 2006, compared to
the same period of time last year.
