General Motors is recalling an additional 900,000 vehicles for problems with tailgate
cables. This recall is separate from the previous one that involved approximately four
million model-year 2000-04 GM light trucks and SUVs because of faulty tailgate cables.
Both
recalls are due to cables that corrode and break. This latest recall covers 1999-2000 model
Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-size pickups.
More than 80 injuries have been
attributed to the defect, but no accidents or deaths have been reported.
