GM Begins Mailing Discount Coupons

Following years of legal wrangling in the class-action suit regarding side-mounted fuel
tanks on its pickups, General Motors has begun mailing coupons of between $250 and $1,000
required in the settlement. The discount coupons are being sent to owners of GM C/K
pickups, from 1973 through 1986; and R And V model pickups built from 1987 through 1991.
Only owners of record on July 1996 are eligible. The government dropped efforts in 1994 to
force a recall of the trucks after GM agreed to pay $51 million toward auto-safety
programs.
