Oil prices began to move downward for the first time this year after the Organization of
Petroleum Exporting Countries decided to pump more oil, easing the chance of shortages
later in the summer.
An Energy Information Administration spokesperson recently told a
Senate committee that retail gas prices fell by about three cents a gallon last week on a
national average and that wholesale prices declined by 23 cents a gallon from their peak in
mid-May.
