Fuel Prices Dip Slightly

According to AAA, the average price of self-serve regular gasoline has dipped below $3 per
gallon. Prices spiked after British Petroleum (BP) said it was temporarily halting oil
production at Alaska’s Prudhoe Bay to repair a pipeline. AAA says a combination of factors
helped mitigate the effects of BP’s announcement on the price of gasoline.

According to the
Oil Price Information Service, Hawaii has the highest average gas price in the nation at
$3.368 per gallon. California and Connecticut both have the next highest average prices,
both at $3.216 per gallon. A recent Pew Research poll showed that 55 percent of drivers
have already cut back on their driving because of gas prices. A quarter had begun
carpooling, and 12 percent had begun using mass transit.
