Fuel Cell-Powered Vehicles Predicted

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

The latest forecasts for the number of vehicles worldwide anticipate an increase from 800
million to 1.6 billion by 2030. This will result in unacceptable levels of carbon dioxide
if only current technology remains in use. Fuel cells, which generate electricity by
harnessing the energy created when hydrogen and oxygen are chemically combined, are poised
to provide one of the largest leaps in technology since the development of automobiles with
internal-combustion engines. General Motors predicts a penetration of fuel-cell vehicles
into specific markets of 10 percent by 2010 and 25 percent by 2020. Expect to see
commercial hybrid and fuel-cell vehicles introduced in the next few years.
