Arthur Frommer, editor-in-chief of Arthur Frommer’s Budget Travel, has received the 2002
Distinguished Achievement in RV Journalism Award. The award is presented annually by the
Recreation Vehicle Industry Association (RVIA) to journalists whose efforts capture the
appeal and advantages of RV travel before national audiences. “Arthur Frommer is an RV
enthusiast and one of the finest travel journalist we know,” said RVIA President David
Humphreys. “As a foremost travel authority, his works have benefited millions of travelers,
including RVers.” Humphreys, RVIA Board Chairman Claire Skinner, and RVIA Public Relations
Committee Chairman B.J. Thompson presented the award to Frommer at a special ceremony last
month during RVIA’s 40th Annual National RV Trade Show in Louisville, Kentucky. In a lively
tribute, Frommer was recognized as both a “giant” in the travel industry and an RV fan. The
publishing empire Frommer founded was cited among his achievements. More than 180 travel
guidebooks now bear his name, including Frommer’s Exploring America by RV. His current
venture is the highly successful consumer travel magazine, Budget Travel, which breaks the
mold of existing travel journalism by focusing on affordable family vacations. His magazine
prominently highlights the value of RVing. In accepting the award, Frommer stated that the
RV industry “has led the world in creating a new form of vacation — a unique American form
of recreation. I’m very grateful that I’ve been able to play some small part in bringing
attention of your industry to the public.”
