Ford Motor Company will begin a recall of approximately 1.4 million 2001 model-year
vehicles due to seat-belt buckles that may not latch safely. Models being recalled include
the Crown Victoria, Windstar, Ranger, F-series trucks, Excursion and Expedition, plus
Mercury Grand Marquis, Lincoln Town Car and Navigator, and the Mazda B-series trucks — all
popular with trailerists. All recalled models were manufactured between the beginning of
the 2001 model year and May 26, 2001. Testing has found the defect in 5 percent or less of
the buckles. Vehicle owners will be notified by mail and asked to go to a dealership to get
the buckles inspected and/or replaced.
