The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said Ford is recalling nearly
200,000 1997 and 1998 Windstar vans sold in certain Snow Belt states because of a corrosion
problem with their front springs. NHTSA said the coil springs could break and contact the
front tire, and that some tires have deflated due to contact with a broken spring. Ford
dealers are notifying owners and installing protective shields around the springs.
