Ford has recalled more than 1.1 million Windstar minivans, Mercury Cougar coupes, and
Contour and Mystique small sedans due to possible fire hazards. The company notified owners
of approximately 778,000 1999-2001 Windstar minivans after 10 reports of the
windshield-wiper motor catching fire. Of those vans, some 525,000 1999-2001 Windstars were
also recalled for a fire hazard with the rear seat air-conditioning/heating system. Ford
said it had no reports of any injuries in those fires.
