Ford Motor Company has announced the introduction of patented Roll
Stability Control (RSC) on its SUVs. The RSC system is now available on
the 2004 Lincoln Aviator and Navigator. It also will be available on the
2005 Ford Explorer and Expedition, and 2005 Mercury Mountaineer.
Unlike other systems on the market, Ford’s new RSC offers added
assistance to the driver in maintaining vehicle control during extreme
maneuvers if a rollover is likely. Typical electronic stability control
systems are designed to control yaw or skidding only. Ford’s RSC
technology is the only active stability enhancement system on the market
today that directly measures the body roll rate and calculates the roll
angle of the vehicle. The RSC system continuously calculates if the
vehicle may be approaching a situation where rollover is probable and
takes action to help prevent rollover.
