Ford Motor has announced that it will enter the 2007 model year with two
new body styles for the F-Series pickups with greater towing
capability, at prices substantially lower than previous trucks. The new
models include the Ford F-150 FX2 Sport and the Harley-Davidson
SuperCrew.
Ford also will introduce the new 2008 F-Series Super Duty pickup
early next year. The truck’s 6.4-liter Power Stroke engine will be
Ford’s cleanest, quietest pickup diesel ever — with particulate
emissions equivalent to a gasoline engine.
Navistar will supply the new Power Stroke, which will displace 6.4
liters, up from the current 6.0 liters. Ford says it will be the first
pickup engine in North America to use a high-precision, high-pressure,
common-rail fuel-injection system featuring piezo-electric injectors.
These advanced injectors allow ultra precise timing of fuel injection
for quietness and better emissions.
The new 6.4-liter Power Stroke features advanced emissions
equipment, including a new diesel particulate filter. Although it will
be larger in displacement than the outgoing 6.0-liter V-8 diesel, Ford
says it will offer similar fuel economy.
Pricing, mileage and engine specifications will be available
closer to the on-sale date in early 2007. Ford will continue to offer
warranty and roadside assistance, which covers diesel engines for five
years or 100,000 miles.
