Ford introduced a hybrid Escape SUV at the New York International Auto
Show in April, which the company said will be available to retail
customers in about a year.
The hybrid four-cylinder Escape will get 35 mpg to 40 mpg and
qualifies as a super-ultra low-emission vehicle (SULEV), according to
Ford. The performance of the hybrid matches that of the V-6 Escape, yet
CO2 emissions in city driving are half of what they are in a
conventional Escape with a V-6 engine.
Initially, Ford will sell the vehicle at a loss until it is able to trim costs.
