For 2008, Ford’s F-250 Super Duty gets an updated interior, a new
turbodiesel engine and more amenities. Buyers can chose from three cab
styles: Regular Cab, SuperCab and Crew Cab, plus two bed lengths.
Under
the hood, the big news is a 6.4-liter Power Stroke diesel with twin
sequential turbochargers. It’s designed to deliver linear boost
throughout the rpm range; it also has a particulate filter, which makes
the diesel run as clean as a gas engine, according to Ford. Power is
raised to 350 hp, and there’s 650 lb-ft of torque available at 2,000
rpm. The diesel only comes with a TorqShift five-speed automatic with
Tow/Haul mode; a transmission temperature and boost gauge are also
available.
The 6.8-liter Triton gas V-10, which is still rated 362 hp,
continues to be offered. It also gets the five-speed Torqshift automatic
transmission; a six-speed manual remains available on base model work
trucks powered by the 5.4-liter Triton 300-hp gas V-8. Choices also
include two- or four-wheel drive.
Trailerists will like the factory-installed TowCommand
trailer-brake control, power-telescoping trailer-towing mirrors, folding
bed extender and tailgate step. Tow ratings vary with options.
Look for pricing in the high $30K to mid-$50K range.
