New-truck shoppers may be offered a Ford F-150 with a diesel option in a few years, according to Automotive News.
Ford is said to be developing a 4.4-liter V-8 diesel engine that may be
sold in the F-150 pickup in approximately two to three years.
The engine is a scaled-up version of a 3.6-liter V-8 that Ford
makes for Range Rovers in England. Ford says that it has wanted to put a
diesel engine in a half-ton pickup for years and was looking at outside
suppliers to build the engine. The new engine would be manufactured in
the same plant in England that produces the 3.6-liter diesel and would
be shipped to the United States.
Ford says it could produce up to 100,000 diesel-powered F-150s per year.
