Foldable Fun(2)

Originally Published in MotorHome Magazine

The word “downsizing” has become a part of American lexicon — but you never really
understand its ramifications on a personal level until you own a motorhome. To be sure,
creative packing is taken to a whole new level — but it’s no substitute for miniaturizing
your life. If it can’t be shrunk, it can’t be carried. However, that doesn’t necessarily
translate into foregoing enjoyable activities. In fact, Dahon’s redesigned Helios SL
folding bike is as much fun to ride as anything you’ll find among its full-sized
counterparts — and will attract a lot more attention. Built around an ultra-light aluminum
frame, the Helios weighs just 18 pounds. According to Dahon, the jet-black bike can be
folded down in just 15 seconds; with the telescoping steering column and seat post lowered,
forged lattice-frame hinges allow the bike to fold into a package just 11 x 23 x 33 inches,
small enough to be tucked away in most exterior storage lockers. Don’t let its size fool
you: The diminutive 8-speed bike is claimed to accommodate riders up to 6 feet, 4 inches
and 230 pounds. Dahon California Inc., (626) 305-5264, dahon.com.
