Florida Converts Interstate Exit Numbers

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

The Florida Department of Transportation has changed highway-exit
numbers from consecutive exit numbers to milepost numbers. The new exit
numbers match the numbers on the mile markers along the highway.

The milepost exit numbers are more convenient and safer, and
provide a system whereby the motorist can easily determine his position
along the highway. That’s good news if you’re trying to tell people
where you are in an emergency situation. It also helps determine the
remaining distance to your destination.

The exit signs will have the old and new exit numbers for two
years. Neighboring Georgia also has converted its highway-exit numbers
to milepost numbers.
