First L.A. Hydrogen Station Opens

Originally Published in Trailer Life Magazine

The first hydrogen production and fueling station in the Los Angeles area has begun
operation at Honda’s research and development facility in Torrance, California. Honda’s
station is part of the ongoing research into renewable energy and will be used for hydrogen
production, storage and refueling. Honda’s station uses solar power to separate hydrogen
from water, and also can use electrical power to increase the production of hydrogen.
Available solar power can produce enough hydrogen to drive a single fuel cell vehicle for a
year. The station’s operation starts with the solar cells using the sun’s energy to produce
electricity, which is then used to extract hydrogen from water.
