Bridgestone-Firestone has recalled 3.5 million additional Firestone Wilderness AT tires at
the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). NHTSA reported
that an investigation had determined that a safety defect exists in Firestone Wilderness AT
tires, in sizes P235/75R15 and P255/70R16, that were manufactured before May, 1998. These
tires were original equipment on Mercury Mountaineers and Ford Explorers. The recall
applies only to sport-utility vehicle tires from the Joliette, Quebec, and Wilson, North
Carolina, factories and does not apply to pickup trucks. Firestone will replace the tires
at no cost to consumers
