A national survey of almost 8,000 American drivers conducted in early January by the
Dohring Company, an auto market-research company, reveals that vehicle safety features have
reached a record level of popularity. Additionally, over half of those surveyed indicated
that manufacturer incentives have a significant influence on their vehicle selection
process. The random poll that represented all 50 states asked the questions of drivers who
were intending to purchase a vehicle in the near future. Over half of the respondents said
that the presence of incentives could actually cause them to buy a new vehicle, and almost
60 percent said that incentives would be a primary consideration in the selection of a
specific make or model.
