new truck gets added power, new exterior styling and a new interior.
Dakota’s optional 4.7-liter V-8 is upped by 25 percent to 290 hp. Torque
also rises by 10 percent to 320 lb-ft. Additionally, fuel economy is up
and it has E85 flex-fuel capability.

A 3.7-liter V-6 engine is standard. V-8 Dakotas will be offered
with a five-speed automatic; V-6s will have a six-speed automatic
(except for Laramie trim) or a four-speed automatic. Two- and
four-wheel-drive versions will be available.

Outside, a new hood, grille, front and rear ends, and headlamps
are restyled. New Dakotas also get a new instrument panel and console. A
new under-rear-seat storage system, a cargo management system with
collapsible dividers, plus a storage bin above the glovebox add
convenience. An MP3 player can be plugged into a new range of audio
systems with optional satellite radio, and a DVD navigation system.

Pricing and tow ratings have not been announced. The 2008 Dakotas should be on sale in August.
