The all-new 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, the first hemispherical combustion
chambered V-8 from Chrysler in decades, will go on sale this fall in the
Dodge Ram 2500/3500 heavy-duty pickups.
The Hemi, which has pushrod and overhead valves, is rated 345 hp
at 5,400 rpm and 375 lb-ft of torque at 4,200 rpm. It replaces the
veteran 5.9-liter V-8, which is rated 245 hp.
Chrysler says the more powerful new Hemi will reduce fuel consumption by 8-10 percent, compared to the 5.9-liter engine.
The new Hemi also tops the output of GM’s and Ford’s high-volume truck V-8s.
