Consumer Reports magazine has given a “not acceptable” rating to, and asked for a recall
of, the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Limited because it tipped up on two wheels during
emergency-handling tests and posed “an unnecessary risk” of rollover. Isuzu has denied that
the Montero is unsafe. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has raised doubts
about Consumer Reports’ testing in the past, saying the results were unscientific and could
be influenced by the driver.
