Chrysler and General Motors have recently announced various plans to reduce the number of dealers selling their vehicles.
Chrysler announced its Project Genesis, which brings the Jeep and
Dodge brands together, to be sold out of the same dealerships. Chrysler
has already announced that the Chrysler Pacifica, Crossfire, PT Cruiser
convertible and Dodge Magnum will be discontinued, and there are rumors
that more brands will be dropped.
General Motors Chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner said he would speed
up consolidation of dealerships selling three brands: Cadillac, Saab and
Hummer. He added that GM does not plan to reduce the number of its
brands, but does want to consolidate its retail stores.
