California’s Air Resources Board (CARB) released its final plan to
reduce greenhouse gas emissions from vehicles. It calls for a 30 percent
decrease by 2016, or 34 percent for cars and light trucks, and 25
percent for larger trucks.
Rules would be phased in with the first step from 2009 to 2012,
calling for a 25 percent drop in hydrocarbon emissions in cars and light
trucks. Bigger trucks and SUVs will have to cut emissions 18 percent.
Massachusetts, New York and New Jersey may adopt similar programs.
