Canadian Snowbirds Welcome U.S. Clarification of Visa Plan

The Canadian Snowbird Association (CSA), representing 100,000 long-term
travelers across the country, is pleased that Deputy Prime Minister
John Manley has become involved with the U.S. Immigration and
Naturalization Service’s (INS) proposed visitors’ visa regulation
conflict.

“We’re thrilled that Mr. Manley has included the snowbird issue in his discussions,” said CSA President Ellen White.

Chris Bentley, a spokesman for the INS, explained: “If there are
Canadian citizens coming south in their RVs to the United States,
they’ll be able to stay for up to six months, just as they always have.”

The confusion stemmed from a proposed INS rule announced in April
that would give border inspectors the ability to limit Canadians’ visits
to 30 days. The 30-day limitation applies only to those Canadians who
cannot reasonably demonstrate why they need to be in the United States
for longer than 30 days.
