Canada has proposed a new “Green Levy” to reduce greenhouse gases,
which applies to all passenger vehicles except pickup trucks.
Passenger vehicles (except pickups) with fuel consumption of 13.0
L/100 km or more would be taxed. The tax begins at Canadian $1,000 for
vehicles with 13.0 to 14.0 L/100 km mileage and increases in $1,000
steps for each full liter per 100 km increase, maxing out at $4,000 for
vehicles with ratings of 16.0 L/100 km.
Canada is also proposing a rebate for fuel-efficient vehicles.
