California Fuel Economy Rules May Be Allowed

President Obama has directed the Environmental Protection Agency to reconsider granting a
waiver to California that would allow it to set mileage and emission standards for vehicles
sold in the state. The ruling may require vehicles sold in California to average 35 mpg by
2017. This is three years earlier than the current federal rule, and leads to a new
corporate fleet average of 42.5 mpg by 2020.
