GM Adds Incentives
General Motors is adding a new sale program that offers a $1,000
rebate on vehicles that have been on a dealer lot for more than 120
days. GM calls it “March Madness.”
Range Rover May Get a V-12
Land Rover’s Range Rover SUV may get a supercharged V-12 engine
for the 2006 model year. Development and testing are said to be under
way, and are subject to corporate budget limitations. No further
details, including tow ratings, are currently available.
New Freelander on the Way
Land Rover’s updated Freelander SUV is due in Europe in about one
year. The U.S.-homologated Freelander should reach dealers in
approximately 18 months. It’s expected that it will have more power,
along with other improvements.
GM to Drop Quadrasteer
General Motors Quadrasteer four-wheel steering system has been
available as an option since 2002 on its full-size pickup trucks and
SUVs. Due to poor sales, however, GM will drop the feature after the end
of the 2005 model run.
Canada to Require Anti-theft Systems
Canada’s Transport Minister recently announced that all motor
vehicles sold in Canada after September 1, 2007, must have an anti-theft
mobilizing system to prevent the engine from being started by
unauthorized users.
NHTSA Wants Crackdown on Speeders
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is
preparing an initiative to crack down on speeding, with methods
including speed cameras and increased patrols. NHTSA has determined that
local roads, not interstates, are where speeding has the most dangerous
effect.
