Nissan Recalls Murano & Maxima
Nissan is performing a safety recall on its Murano and Maxima
models for a possible defect in the ignition. The recall includes
approximately 70,000 Muranos and 10,000 Maximas. The affected vehicles
may have faulty ignition assemblies that either won’t start or start
when the ignition is not activated. Corrective repairs will be made for
free at Nissan dealerships.
General Motors Raising Prices
General Motors has announced that it will raise prices on
approximately a third of the models it sells in the United States and
Canada. The one-half percent price increase is said to be the result of
rising material costs. GM said the Chevy Silverado pickup is not
included in the price boost.
E85 Pumps May Be Illegal
The Detroit Free Press reported that Underwriters
Laboratories has not approved fuel pumps that handle E85
ethanol-gasoline fuel. Thus, approximately 1,000 stations that sell E85
may be violating fire codes, unless they obtain waivers from fire
marshals. The issue could delay acceptance for E85 fuel with retailers
and the public.
AAA Study Shows Teen Drivers at Risk
Conventional wisdom indicates that teen drivers are most likely to
be involved in accidents late at night and on weekends. However, a new
study by the American Automobile Association (AAA) found that the
after-school hours may be nearly as dangerous for teen drivers. The
study showed that nearly as many 16- and 17-year-old drivers were
involved in fatal crashes between the hours of 3 and 5 pm on weekdays,
as on Friday and Saturday night between 9 pm and 2 am.
