General Motors Adds True Hybrid

New for 2008 is a hybrid drive system for GM’s full-size Chevrolet
Tahoe and GMC Yukon SUVs. The system, which uses the 6.0-liter V-8
engine and a six-speed transmission, is claimed to provide a 40 percent
gain in city fuel mileage and a 25 percent boost in overall mpg. GM says
it will add the system to Cadillac’s Escalade, and GMC Sierra and
Chevrolet Silverado crew-cab models in 2008.

More Towing Power on the Way

Initially, the 2008 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon pickups will
continue with either the 2.9-liter 185-hp four-cylinder, or a 242-hp
3.7-liter in-line five-cylinder engine. General Motors is expected to
add a V-8 option to the Canyon lineup sometime in 2008. This engine
should be a version of the 5.3-liter V-8. That engine is also expected
to become an option in the Hummer H3.

Suzuki Pickup Truck Coming

Suzuki’s first midsize pickup truck in the U.S. market is on its
way. It actually will be a rebadged Nissan Frontier with a new front end
and other small changes. Look for them on sale by 2010 or earlier.
