Ford Recalls Trucks for ABS Problem

Ford is recalling more than 200,000 models of the 2006 F-150
pickup truck and the Lincoln Mark LT truck because of a software error
in the instrument panel. The error could prevent the antilock brake
system (ABS) warning light from illuminating if the system malfunctions.

2008 Toyota Tundra Unveiled

The 2008 Toyota Tundra has been unveiled and will have a long
145.7-inch wheelbase, 10 inches more than the 2006 Access Cab model. The
three different engine options include a 5.7-liter V-8, a 4.7-liter V-8
and a 4.0-liter V-6. Toyota plans to offer it on sale in January. The
5.7 V-8 comes with a new six-speed automatic transmission. Rumors have
it that a diesel option is also under development. Toyota says the new
Tundra will deliver Class 4 towing capacity of up to 10,000 pounds.

California Updates Smog Checks

The California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the Bureau of
Automotive Repair have released a final version of their joint “Smog
Check Program Evaluation Report.” This version calls for more frequent
tests of older and/or high-mileage vehicles, more-stringent standards,
inspection of smoking vehicles and increased enforcement. Other options
such as remote sensing, continuous OBD II monitoring (i.e., “OBD III”)
and even testing of 1966-75 models. The full text of the report is
