GM Extends Powertrain Warranty
General Motors has extended the powertrain warranty on its entire
line of cars and light trucks to 100,000 miles or five years, whichever
occurs first. GM said the coverage will be effective on all 2007 models,
including Buicks, Cadillacs, Chevrolets, GMCs, HUMMERs, Pontiacs,
Saturns, Saabs. The coverage is fully transferable, includes 24-hour
roadside assistance and free loaners, and there are no deductibles. For

Chrysler Raises Zero-Percent Incentives
Chrysler is matching a Ford buyer-incentive program that extends
eligibility of no-interest loans to buyers with less-than-perfect credit
scores. Chrysler also has extended its zero-percent financing period
from five to six years to make it easier for more people to purchase
vehicles.
OnStar Navigation Is Standard on Most ’07 Models
General Motors is expanding the availability of the OnStar
telematics navigation system. The OnStar service sends turn-by-turn
instruction to the car’s audio system, which plays it back as needed.
The system will be offered free on a wide range of models, including
most Buicks and Cadillacs and will be available for $100 on other
models. After the first year, GM will charge $299 a year for the
service.
E-85 Gasoline in Florida by Year’s End
General Motors has announced it work with Florida and Inland Food
Stores to open 16 filling stations that will sell E-85 ethanol-blended
gasoline around Tallahassee. The alternative fuel should be available at
all of the retail stores by the end of this year. Only vehicles
designated as “Flex Fuel” compatible should be fueled with E85.
Diesel Sets Land-Speed Record
Andy Green, a British pilot, broke the land-speed record for
supercharged diesel engines at the Bonneville Salt Flats, with an
average of 328.767 mph. Green’s diesel streamliner shattered the world
record by more than 90 mph. The old record was 235.756 mph, set by
Virgil Snyder back in 1973. Green’s race car is powered by two 4.4-liter
diesel engines with a combined 1,500 hp.
