Isuzu Leaving U.S. Light Vehicle Market
Isuzu of America has announced it will stop offering the only two
models it sells in the United States: the Ascender SUV and the I-series
pickup truck. Isuzu said its decision was made because partner General
Motors may stop building the Trail Blazer SUV and its small pickup
models, which are re-badged as Isuzus. Isuzu told its dealers they can
continue to service Isuzu vehicles, and it will continue to honor all
warranties and supply parts.
Hawaii May Tax ‘Gas Guzzlers’
Legislation was recently introduced into Hawaii’s House of
Representatives to create a purchase surcharge for some new motor
vehicles. These would be set based on the state’s calculations of carbon
emissions and the law is intended to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Depending on which vehicle is purchased, if the law is enacted, the
surcharge could cost buyers up to $2,500 extra per vehicle.
